Physical Education
Teachers assess student learning in physical education based on state and national standards. Report card strands include the following:
Physical Education Skills (National Standards 1, 2, 3)
Teachers measure student ability to perform various physical skills, activities, and movements. Students are assessed on their ability to perform skills independently; demonstrate skills with maturity and independence; and show carry-over of skill into a game or activity situation.
Physical Education Concepts (National Standards 2, 3, 4, 5)
Students demonstrate their understanding of strategies, rules, game play, and body movement. Teachers measure student understanding of activities, games, rules, and movement sequence. Teachers expect students to analyze and describe the parts of their body and analyze how each part moves. Students should be able to apply strategies in a game situation.
Sportsmanship (National Standards 4, 5)
Students demonstrate sportsmanship in games and activities. Teachers evaluate students on self-control and respect for others. Students should exhibit responsible personal and social behavior in a physically active setting. Students should demonstrate and understanding of, and respect for, differences among people in physically active settings.
Effort
Teachers will evaluate effort in physical education using the following behaviors: student is always prepared for activity; student participates willingly in all activities; student participates to the best of their ability in every class; student is willing to contribute to class in a respectful, positive manner; and student uses equipment in a responsible, respectful way.
Students are graded daily in PE from 0 (unprepared) to 4 (excellent)
